Spider veins affect more than just the legs, both men and women suffer from prominent veins along the face, causing a major cosmetic issue.
Facial veins are generally caused by genetics, hormones, over-exposure to the sun, other skin conditions. and aging.
All of us have veins along our face, however when these veins or blood vessels become clogged, they appear more prominently and disrupt the facial harmony. When they become clogged, the veins become engorged and will appear a bluish, or purple tint, protruding through the skins surface.
How Can Facial Veins Be Treated?
Modern facial vein treatment is generally done through the use of lasers. We use a laser that delivers a precise light beam through the skins surface, directly into the clogged blood vessel breaking up the blockage. Once the blockage is cleared, the vein can return to its normal function and be absorbed back below the skin’s surface.
The laser treatment is relatively pain-free,patients compare the feeling to a soft pinch. However, if you have overly sensitive skin then topical anesthetics, or other serums may become necessary.
Depending on the area of the face being treated and the severity of the veins in the area, the procedure can be completed from anywhere from a few minutes to close to an hour.
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
Typically, we recommend patients undergo multiple procedures in order to achieve the desired level of correction, 2 or 3, being most common. However, in the event that your facial veins are extremely severe and have a deeper, darker color, then more procedures may be recommended. During your consult we will make a determination specific to your corrective needs.
Who is a Good Candidate for Facial Vein Treatment?
During your consult, we will carefully examine your veins as well as your medical history. Making sure that you are an ideal candidate for the procedure.
Side Effects & Downtime
Generally, the laser doesn’t leave any side effects as it is completely non-invasive. Some patients may experience mild discomfort during and after the procedure, but this is rare and minimal. Some light swelling, and redness may occur, however these issues will generally subside within a few hours at the latest. Patients can return to their normal activities immediately following the procedure, however, it is recommended that you avoid over-exposure to the sun after this procedure as well as wearing sunscreen.
